With the publication of two additional world record results, Dell's PowerEdge R730 and R920 servers are once again showing their industry leading performance when running SAP benchmarks. This time, the benchmark is SAP's Business Warehouse Enhanced Mixed Load, or BW-EML Benchmark, which stresses ad-hoc, near real-time querying and reporting on large data warehouses. The key performance indicator of the benchmark is the number of ad-hoc navigation steps per hour for a given number of initial records.

At the 2 billion initial records level, we see the R920 with 137,010 ad-hoc navigation steps per hour, edging out the next highest result of 126,980 ad-hoc steps achieved by the HP ProLiant DL580 Gen8 server. Both database servers have four processors from Intel's Xeon E7-4800 v2 family.

At the 1 billion initial records level, we see the R730 with 148,680 ad-hoc navigation steps / hour, edging out the next highest result of 129,930 ad-hoc steps, achieved by another HP server, the ProLiant DL580 G7. With just two processors from Intel's Xeon E5-2600 v3 family, the R730 is able to top the performance of the HP server with its four processors from the Intel's Xeon E7-4800 family.

As mentioned before, the PowerEdge R730's industry leading performance running SAP benchmarks is nothing new. In September, Dell published a world record two socket SAP SD Two-Tier result of 16,500 benchmark users, surpassing the results published by HP, Cisco, and IBM.

Similarly, the PowerEdge R920 is also already a world record holder on SAP benchmarks, having the world record for four socket performance on the SAP SD Two-Tier benchmark with a result of 25,451 benchmark users.

The two SAP BW-EML results highlighted here, and Dell's world records on the SAP-SD benchmark, show Dell's commitment to world class performance in mission critical applications. More SAP benchmarks are underway, so stay tuned!

Details of these comparisons are summarized in the tables below.
